History of the Department

The Health Department of the Velocity Interoperability Network is a young institution. The milestones below record its establishment and will be extended as the Department's services come into operation.

1. Before September 2026

   Health services provided by member organisations

   Before the Department existed, each member organisation of the Network made its own arrangements for the health of its staff. There was no common standard of occupational health, no shared clinic provision and no coordinated emergency response across sites.

2. 10 August to 5 September 2026

   The transition period

   In the four weeks before establishment, member organisations transferred their health functions, staff records and interim clinic arrangements to the new Department. Activity continued under the interim arrangements throughout, and 18,400 staff and citizens were registered in readiness for establishment.

3. 6 September 2026

   Department established

   The Health Department of the Velocity Interoperability Network was formally established, with responsibility for occupational health, clinics at major sites, emergency response and health advice for the staff of member organisations and citizens of the Network.

4. 6 September 2026

   Official website launched

   The Department launched health.gov.vin, carrying press releases, official statements, current health advice and guidance on the services the Department provides.

5. 6 September 2026

   Clinics, programmes and the first statistical release

   On the day of its establishment the Department confirmed the opening of six clinics between 7 and 11 September 2026, announced four vaccination and screening programmes beginning 14 September, and published its first statistical release, covering the transition period.

6. Forthcoming

   Hospital transfer arrangements and quarterly reporting

   Arrangements for the transfer of patients to hospital care beyond the Network, and the Department's first full quarterly statistical report, covering the quarter ending 30 September 2026, will be announced in the Newsroom.
